Jack Ashton
Art and Photography

Hi, I’m Jack! I am a 22-year-old Zoology graduate whose passion lies with nature. I have always been at home in the natural world, which ignited my love for photography and art. These passions developed at similar times in my life and I have found they go hand-in-hand as my inspiration for both comes from the same source - animals and nature.
Having done a Zoology course at Exeter University’s Cornwall campus, I have been lucky to be surrounded by rugged coastal landscapes and amazing British species for the past 3 years. This let me learn more about techniques in both photography and art, and experiment. During these years, I have been lucky enough to go on various trips to places such as Namibia, Egypt and Pembrokeshire, all the while increasing my love for nature.
Since these trips, I have found a particular interest in connecting my photography and art, and I love to draw some of the photos that I have taken whenever possible. I now aim to refine my skills in both photography and art, and keep both of these as a huge part of my life!
Whilst I have not entered many photography competitions, one of my photos of a green turtles won a weekly online competition run by The Guardian, and my photo of a lunge-feeding blue whale is currently being used on the charity ORCA’s website. Along with this, I have sold drawings and I was commissioned to draw all of the species of whale lice for Mark Carwardine’s new whale watching guide, ‘Handbook of Whales, Dolphins and Porpoises’. These are now for sale on his website.
